Iron Work Farm in Acton, Inc. ('IWF') is a preservation organization dedicated to the stewardship of two historic structures located in what is now South Acton, Massachusetts -- the Jones Tavern and the Faulkner House.

The Iron Work Farm name derives from the original name of a 1,000-acre plantation which was granted in 1654 to Major Simon Willard, a founder of Concord. The land grant was acquired by the Concord Iron Works Company about 1660 and became the location of the first village settlement in Acton between 1700 and 1710. The area was incorporated as a town in 1735.

The purpose of Iron Work Farm in Acton, Inc. is to study the documents and preserve the tangible landmarks connected with this village, which later was a prominent commercial center in the railroad era from 1845 to 1900.

Events of early 2010 at Iron Work Farm

The Equinox Event -- with live music, food & spirits, dancing, and a silent auction -- was held at Exchange Hall, recently restored and just reopened, situated just across Main Street from Jones Tavern.  Proceeds from the March 20th event exceeded our expectations, and every penny realized will help us to continue the restoration and preservation of our two historic, South Acton structures.

The Patriots' Day Event -- both IWF properties, the Faulkner House and Jones Tavern, were open to the public with a variety of displays to appeal to visitors of all ages, and re-enactors from 'both sides' encamped on the grounds.  Transportation from parking at Town Hall to the Hosmer House as well as the Faulkner House and Jones Tavern was provided by trackless trollies.

The Faulkner House and Jones Tavern Open House in May -- offered a talk on herbs of the 1735 period and featured creation of a small herb garden typical of that period.  Visitors had a chance to observe quilt makers as they started work on a Civil War reproduction quilt similar to one that will be auctioned by IWF and Mothertown Quilters in April of 2011, in celebration of Patriots' Day.
