The Iron Work Farm in Acton, Inc. is
an educational, non-profit historical corporation chartered in 1964. The
name is derived from the 1,000-acre plantation (most of it now South Acton)
granted in 1654 to Major Simon Willard, a founder of Concord. The grant was
acquired about 1660 by the Concord Iron Works Company, and became in
1700-1710, the location of the first village settlement in Acton, which was
incorporated as a town in 1735.
The purpose of the Iron Work Farm in Acton,
Inc. is to study the documents and preserve the tangible landmarks connected
with this village, which later was a prominent commercial center in the
railroad era of 1845 to 1900.
